Tex Mex and Mexican Food

Amsterdam is well-known for its Indonesian food and Reistafel (rice table) but Rose’s Cantina is cooking up some excellent Tex Mex meals that may help put Amsterdam on the Mexican food map.

Located at Reguliersdwarsstraat 38 near the Flower Market in Central Amsterdam, Rose’s is easy to reach. Reservations are strongly recommended for the weekend as well as Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Although the restaurant is busy, it has a warm, relaxed atmosphere that really helps to put you in that south of the border frame of mind. Speaking of the right frame of mind … Don’t forget to have a couple of their killer margaritas at the bar while you’re waiting to be seated.

The wait staff are friendly and efficient. I am always amazed at how they keep a smiling face and great disposition on a Saturday night when they are constantly running around. The tables are speedily cleaned but you won’t be rushed out after your meal.

The menu has a variety of Tex Mex cuisine, including great fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, and nachos. You'll also find these unique specialties on Rose's menu ...

  • Pescado a la Veracruzana is grilled catfish served with a zesty onion, tomato, and olive sauce
  • Pato al Timarindo is breast of duck, cooked in a tasty tamarind, chipotle (smoked jalapeno pepper), onion and tomato sauce, wrapped in a flour tortilla.
  • Borrego al Chipotle is a lamb stew flavored with chipotle.
